It’s a shame that when one mentions ratatouille (I almost capitalized it), the majority will first mentally conjure the brilliant Disney/Pixar production. It has made it almost comical to feature the Provençale braised vegetable dish on a menu item.
I have an additional hangup with it. In our very first review, the critic reviewing us insisted that despite disliking the entire meal, they should not be associated with Anton Ego (the movie’s restaurant critic). Ever since, the association was enough that every time I saw the movie sitting on our shelf (which was given to me as a gift), I felt nauseous and it dampened my desire to view it. Happily though, seeing it again through the eyes of my 2 year old daughter has gotten me over the hump to be able to appreciate it again… though I still don’t like reading that review.
